The FIA GT Championship represents the very pinnacle of European sportscar racing, several teams competing also enter Le Mans every year. For the new Millennium a place with Swiss team Haberthur Racing in an awe-inspiring 500bhp Porsche 911 GT2 presented a steep learning curve, a fire-breathing monster in need of taming.
As work and family took me more towards the US, the British GT Championship provided a challenge closer to the UK. A last minute invitation helped take an unfancied Renault Clio V6 to fourth in class at the first Spa 1000km race for over a decade, a delicate touch proving every bit as important as raw pace. Similar skills later guided a Corvette to its first ever race finish.
Time to move on
